Our History
Luke’s Famous Coney Island is part of a family of restaurants started by Luk Dedvukaj many years ago. Luk came to the United States from Albania in November 1991. He washed dishes and served food at his cousin’s restaurant in New York, but he had far greater goals. In 1992, Luk started his own construction company. By the end of 1994, he moved to Michigan and continued his construction business as a mason contractor. Years later, Luk started Metro General Contractors Inc.
In 1995, Luk’s brother Pete opened a restaurant in Hamtramck. Luk’s wife, Marijela, worked at the restaurant and then at several family owned Coney Island restaurants in the area. Meanwhile, Luk’s construction company grew as he built churches, schools, buildings, and restaurants. While building a Jimmy John’s sub shop, Luk fell in love with the restaurant and decided to open his own Jimmy John’s franchise.
Along with his wife, Luk formed L&M Partners LLC and built and opened 16 more Jimmy John’s restaurants, as well as 5 – 11/11 Crispy Chicken & Burgers and the Let’s Brunch Restaurants.
In 2025, Luk opened Luke’s Famous Coney Island in Clio, MI. He loves being part of that community and is very passionate about giving back. He is open to starting more family-owned restaurants and invites people interested in operating them to reach out and join us. Luk strongly believes in putting more people to work and providing opportunities for success.
